Spam Filters
What precisely is an e-mail spam filter? How does it function? How can you activate spam filtering?
An email filter is a software application that runs on a POP3/IMAP email server and monitors all incoming messages so as to hinder any undesired ones from reaching a given mailbox. Several examples of such emails would be: offers for pills or cash, fraudulent bank statements or attachments that contain malware sent with the idea to infect your personal computer. Spam filters typically check the content of an email and in case they come across given keywords or other suspicious content, they either delete the message or forward it to the Spam/Junk folder instead of the Inbox folder. Certain web hosting companies mix their own spam filters with up-to-the-minute databases from spam-tracking organizations, so as to guarantee better security for their clients. Such databases contain patterns, mail server IPs and other info about spam messages recently detected by these organizations.

Spam Filters in Shared Hosting
If you order a
shared hosting plan from us and if you make use of our email services, you’ll be able to enable spam filters for any of the mailboxes that you set up from the Email Manager section of your Hepsia Control Panel. With just several clicks, you can choose between 5 different safety levels. If you start receiving spam, you can start with the lowest level and then slowly raise the level till you stop getting spam. We use one of the best and most popular filters out there called SpamAssassin. It checks the header field and the body of each email that you get and determines a spam score, based on which it either deletes a specific email or permits it to enter your mailbox. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel will also allow you to activate custom filters and either erase undesired emails or re-send them to a 3rd-party address such as spam@domain.com where you can double-check them after that.

Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you order a
semi-dedicated server package from our company and if you create one or more mailboxes with any of the domains hosted under the account, you will be able to activate the advanced, 5-level SpamAssassin spam filter that we provide and keep all undesired emails away from your inbox. This feature is accessible through the Email Manager section of the Hepsia Control Panel and it can be enabled or disabled for any email account whenever you wish. You can also fine-tune the protection level with several clicks of the mouse in case junk email messages continue to enter your inbox or the email filter starts removing genuine messages. Since you can choose whether the spam should be erased instantaneously or delivered to a separate mailbox, you can create spam@domain.com, for instance, and view all filtered emails there, so as to ensure that you won’t miss a message that you need. The messages that the email filter allows to go through will still be received in your inbox.
